Friendly Shrivenham and Watchfield at Home

Lambourn 7 - 1 Shrivenham

Lambourn started slowly which was to be expected as their last game was the 28th of April and also with 2 new players starting their first game. Lambourn found themselves 1 behind after Shrivenham first attack and it was to be their last of the half as Lambourn then dominated for long periods going close on several occasions only for the woodwork and the impressive Shrivenham goalkeeper to deny them. As the first half came to an end Lambourn finally got the breakthrough when the Shrivenham defender kicked the ball towards his own goal where Ciahran Quick was on hand to get the final touch.
The second half started with Lambourn on top again and Ali Thorpe and Ed Talmage seemed to grow in confidence as Lambourn started to knock the ball around impressively. After a great 5 man passing move the ball was floated accross by Ali and headed down by Luke Plumb with Ed on hand to slot it home. Another great passing move saw Ali lay the ball back to Bradley who slotted it through the defenders to Luke who from an acute angle flicked it up and volleyed it home. The goalkeeper then made 3 great save from Ed and Lukes shots before finally being beaten by 2 superb long range efforts from Ed to complete his hatrick. Kacey came on for Ciarhan and Howard came back on for Daniel at the back which seemed to disrupt the flow of the team for a short while as Shrivenham started to get more of the ball and after a goalmouth scramble somehow Bradley managed to stop a certain tap in with a last dithc tackle right on the line. After this scare Lambourn then started to play again and Luke then broke free on the halfway line to cooly slot home. Aaron made a couple of good late saves before Luke got his hatrick in the last minute after racing clear again and putting the ball through the goalkeepers legs.
A good workout for the team ahead of the Tournament at Ardington next saturday.

League Cup Final

After last week winning the league 2 title Lambourn travelled to the County Ground for the League cup final in good spirits. The boys were told to go out and just enjoy the day and that is exactly what they did winning many friends and plaudits in the process. It was an early start for everyone as we boarded the 63 seater coach from Lambourn Sports Club for the 9:30 kick off but all the boys were wide awake and very excited.
The game itself started well for Lambourn and for the first 15 minutes there was very little between the sides in fact although huge underdogs it was Lambourn that had probably been the better team when Rangers scored a fabulous goal against the run of play with there first real attack after a clearance from Daniel Bayliss fell straight to Charlie Lawrence who blasted it home from outside the area. Lambourn continued to pose a threat and should have equalised on at least two occasions before half time when Luke Plumb was denied twice by the Rangers goalkeeper.
Half time 0 - 1

The second half started with rangers getting more of the ball and not long after the break Rangers made it 2 - 0 after the striker Tyson was left with far to much room on the edge of the area. Rangers then hit another two goals very quickly as Lambourn went to sleep for a 10 minute period if it had not been for last ditch tackles from Bradley Skeats and some good saves from Aaron Smillie then Rangers would have scored a couple more which would have been very harsh on Lambourn. With 5 minutes to go Lambourn found a new lease of life with Harley Brizell and Kieran Ratcliffe making good runs down the wings on a very narrow pitch and after a couple of attacks Lambourn finally got the goal that there first half performance deserved when from a Howard Hughes cross the ball fell to Declan Rackham after a goalmouth scramble and he prodded home. All credit to Lambourn who never let there heads drop and continued to press right up to the final whistle against the best side at U9 in the North Wilts.
Full time 1 - 4

Well done to the under 9 team none of us at the start of the season would have dreamt of how good a season we have had. Our first goal was to get promoted our second was to win the league and the cup final was just a bonus. We have scored 91 goals this season conceding just 22 and only losing twice a great effort and hopefully we can come back stronger next year and give Swindon Rangers a bit of a tougher time than they have had this season.

Calne Away

Fantastic game of football between two very good sides, Lambourn raced into an early 3 - 0 lead through two well taken Luke Plumb goals and a superb team goal scored by Harley Brizell after every player was involved during the build up. Calne score a good goal before half time to make it 3 -1 at the break.
The second half Calne had Lambourn under the cosh for long periods and got one back with 10 minutes to go after a superb solo goal. Then with less than 5 minutes to go Calne equalized after the same player scored another superb goal. With 2 minutes to go Lambourn pressed for the winner and Kieran Ratcliffe duly stepped up and scored a fantastic chip from 20 yards and with seconds remaining Lambourn poured forward and won a penalty in the last minute with Declan Rackham stroking it home.
Special mention for Bradley Skeats and Daniel Bayliss in defence who along with Aaron Smillie were all awesome today with tackle after tackle and two magnificent saves from Aaron which kept the Calne onslaught at bay.
Final Score Calne 3 - 5 Lambourn

Champions and what a way to win it at our closest rivals.

Shaw Away

Shaw 0 - 3 Lambourn

Lambourn started well with Luke , Declan and Kieran all going close early on, after a number of corners it was only a matter of time before Lambourn opened the scoring and they did after Declan scored a well taken goal from an acute angle. Luke thought he had added another shortly after but it was ruled out harshly for handball but soon after he did score with a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the area. Aaron was a spectator for most of the first half with Brad and Daniel stopping any threat from the Shaw forwards. Kieran nearly scored a third with a great first time volley which hit the post after a good cross from Harley and soon after Declan made it three with another good finish.
The second half saw Luke replaced by Ciahran up front and Howard on for Kieran, Lambourn continued to press for more goals but the Shaw defence stood firm. Kacey came on for Daniel and the changes allowed Shaw to get more of the ball which gave Aaron a chance to make a good save from a rare Shaw attack.
Final score 3 - 0 and another professional job done we now have two cup finals left , the league decider next week against Calne and then the final against Swindon Rangers all to play for.

Ramsbury at Home

Lambourn 3 - 1 Ramsbury
As on the previous day Lambourn started slowly and found themselves 1 behind after a well worked corner from Ramsbury found the back of the net. In an end to end first half neither team could score after having good chances with Luke Plumb terrorising the Ramsbury back three. Lambourn made changes with 20 minutes to go and pushed more players forward with four in midfield leaving Bradley Skeats at the back on his own they started to overrun Ramsbury and soon after Harley Brizell scored a well worked equalizer. A couple of minutes later Kieran Ratcliffe put Lambourn in front with another well taken goal after a great setup from Declan Rackham and with 5 minutes left Harley Brizell made it 3 with another great shot from the edge of the area to wrap up a good comeback.

Abbeymeads Away - Saturday 2th

Abbeymeads United 1 - 2 Lambourn
The game was hastily re-arranged at Lambourn due to the Abbeymeads pitch being waterlogged.

Lambourn started very slowly and Abbeymeads took full advantage of this in the early stages and thankfully Aaron Smillie was in good form making 3 great saves.Abbeymeads were on top when Lambourn scored a breakaway opener from Howard Hughes.
Abbeymeads equalised very soon afterwards after a mistake from the Lambourn defence gifted them a goal. Ciarhan Quick was playing on pitch for the first time and went close with a couple of snap shots.
The second half saw Lambourn make some changes and they started to get on top with a number of goalmouth scrambles and goal line clearances from Declan Rackham and Kieran Ratcliffe shots. Lambourn finally got back in front after a shot from Kieran Ratcliffe smacked the underside of the crossbar and went 2 foot over the line before spinning back out into play, the goal was given and Lambourn go back to the top of the league.

North Wilts Cup Semi Final against Highworth Town at Home

Absolutely great entertainment from two evenly matched teams in front of well over 100 supporters, Lambourn started well and should have been 2 up after 5 minutes with Luke Plumb causing havoc. Highworth started to come into the game but with Bradley Skeats and Daniel Bayliss defending well they could not get a shot on goal. After a couple more chances for Lambourn from Kieran Ratcliffe and Luke Plumb Highworth scored a long range goal against the run of play. The first half finished with lambourn still pressing forward but denied time and time again by the impressive centre back from Highworth. Half time 0 - 1
The second half started the same as first with Lambourn pouring forward and Highworth content to hit on the break. Harley Brizell had a good run down the wing and knocked the ball to Luke whos shot was stopped by the Highworth defenders hand and a penalty was given, Luke stepped up to take the penalty but the superb keeper from Highworth made the save. Highworth seemed to grow after the penalty and a minute later they won a free kick which was struck home by the Centre back, Lambourn looked down and out with only 3 mniytes to go. Howard Hughes came on for Kieran Ratcliffe and Bradley moved into midfield as they went for broke. With relentless pressure Lambourn finally got what looked a late consolation from the impressive Luke Plumb. With less than a minute to go Lambourn continued to come forward and then with 20 seconds to go Bradley Skeats broke through into the box and hit a great shot which the keeper got a hand to and Howard Hughes stabbed it home to make sure and send the game into extra time. Full time 2 - 2
5 minutes each way extra time started with Lambourns tails up and it was not long before Declan was found by Bradley in the area and his snap shot unluckily hit the post, a couple more chances for both teams before the end and the dreaded penalty shoot out. AET 2 - 2
Aaron Smillie made 3 great saves in the penalty shootout and with Bradley Skeats and Declan Rackham scoring their penalties to send Lambourn into the final 2 - 1 on penalties.
A great win for Lambourn when we looked dead and buried we kept going, a big thanks to everyone from Highworth who played their part in a brilliant game and were exceptionally gracious in defeat.

Fairford Youth Away

A very dissapointing game where we were second best in the tackles for large parts of the game, we had the worst possible start as from our kick off we lost the ball missed two tackles and conceded a soft shot to go one behind after 8 seconds!!! Time and time again we got into good situations but the final ball or shot was weak, towards the end of the half Declan scored an eqauliser from a goalmouth scramble. Moments later we hit the post when in a good position and a couple of other shots were saved by the goalkeeper. Half time 1 - 1
The second half started in similar fashion as the first, we conceded a silly free kick just on the corner of the area and from the resulting shot Aaron made a good save but could only push it onto Kieran and the ball fell to the Fariford striker who tapped it into an empty net. The last 15 minutes was spent camped in Fairfords half Daniel did a great job on his own at the back as Bradley was pushed up to get the equaliser. We hit the woodwork a further two times and had numerous great chances including a volley from a yard out that somehow went over but for the last ditch tackles and great saves from the Fairford keeper the score would have been a lot different. Final Score 2 - 1

We need to pick ourselves up and respond with a big win away to Abbeymeads next week. Although the league looks a lot tighter we must not forget that Fairford, Calne and Cirencester all have to play each other in the run in we just need to keep winning and watch who buckles under the pressure.

Away Friendly at Ardington

Lambourn were looking for revenge against the last team to beat them way back in early August. Lambourn played some really good football and from the off were cutting through the Ardington defence like a knife through butter. It was not long before the pressure paid off and Luke scored the opener after good work first from Harley in centre midfield and then a great ball in from Kieran. Ardington started to come forward more but Daniel and Bradley were protecting Ciarhan in goal superbly and played some really nice balls under pressure out to the wingers Howard and Kieran. Bradley fed the ball out to Kieran who went past 2 players and cut in before hitting a great shot for number 2. After more close misses for a number of players Lambourns dominance payed off with another good goal from Luke to make it 0 - 3. Just before half time Ardington started to apply pressure and after a couple of failed clearances Bradley mis timed his tackle to give away a penalty, Ciahran was very unlucky not to stop the penalty getting both hands on the ball. 1 - 3 Half Time
The second half was one way traffic for long periods and nearly every outfield player had a chance to extend the lead but the Ardington goalkeeper made at least 8 or 9 great saves. Towards the end it was a chance to change the formation around and go 1 at the back and in the last 5 minutes Ardington came back into it more with Aaron in goal making a couple of good saves. Then with about a couple of minutes left a Lambourn break broke down leaving Bradley 1 against 4 and Ardington took full adavantage to score a late consolation.
2 - 3 Full Time A great win against the last team to beat us who are looking like winning their league in the Oxford Mail Boys League, probably one of the best all round team performances with the only dissapointment being that we did not win by more.

Cirencester at Home

Lambourn started brightly Luke going close early on but after 5 minutes Cirencester scored the opener. Harley nearly equalised shortly afterward but was just wide with his shot, not long afterwards he did equalise from a corner. Cirencester continued to press and nearly took the lead again, the game was end to end and just before half time Kieran hit the post with a great shot, as the second half finished Lambourn knew they were in a game. Half time 1 - 1
The second half started and it was 5 minutes in before Lambourn had there first chance when Brad fired just wide. Cirencester were dangerous on the break and shot over when clean through. Howard came on for Kieran but it was Ciren that nearly took the lead after a goal mouth scramble and were unlucky again but Aaron made a good save. With 5 minutes to go Declan had a good run and shot that the goalkeeper could only parry and Howard followed up to make it 2 - 1. Bradley and Daniel stood firm in defence and Lambourn could of sealed it when Luke ran clean through but shot just wide , it would have been harsh on Cirencester who gave Lambourn there toughest test of the season. Final score 2- 1

Wanborough Wasps at Home

Two early saves from the Wanborough keeper and a header just over from Declan all in the first minute set the tone for this match. It was not long before a great run and strike from Kieran Ratcliffe opened the scoring in the 3rd minute. Declan had a couple more chances before curling a nice shot into the top corner after 5 minutes. Luke then scored a great poachers goal following up a Kieran shot, then a couple of minutes later Kieran got a well earned second with another good long range shot. Then it was Harleys turn to get on the score sheet with a strong run and good finish. Towards the end of the half Luke was substitiuted by Howard and Daniel went up front and soon scored his first goal of the season followed quickly by his second to make it 7 -0 at half time.
Kacey came on for Kieran and Ciarhan Quick replaced Aaron in goal, as soon as the second half started Howard poached a good goal. Bradley replaced Daniel up front and then scored his first of the season with a good run and finish quickly followed by his second. Harley then scored his second with another well taken goal before Bradley completed his hat trick to make it twelve. Harley quickly followed up with another to complete his hat trick. Wanborough to their credit kept going and scored a well taken goal. Bradley was replaced by Luke and Daniel went back up front soon after he completed his hat trick. Luke then had a good run to score his second followed by a second from Howard. Kacey was pushed up front but could not get a touch to score , Harley then wrapped up the scoring by getting his 4th, but there was still time for Wanborough to get a late consolation to make it a final score of 17 -2

We have now scored 72 goals and conceded just 10.

League Cup Quarter Final away to Swindon Robins

Lambourn were a bit slow to get going after a 5 week break even still they were unlucky not to open the scoring in the second minute as corner by Kieran was hit out to Bradley who saw the goalkeeper make a great save. Lambourn took the lead through Kieran with a well taken goal and they were soon back into there stride. Harley scored a second right on half time after Luke had a shot saved on the line and Harley followed in well to tap in. 0 - 2 Half Time
The second half was more even but it was Lambourn who extended their lead mid way through from Kierans turn and shot before being replaced by Howard. Daniel and Bradley made some great tackles in defence and Aaron in goal made 2 good saves before Declan made it 4 with a nice shot that the goalkeeper could not hold onto and then to cap off a fine performance Aaron saved a last minute penalty to maintain Lambourns unbeaten start to the season. 0 - 4 Full Time

Another great win against higher league opposition sees Lambourn the first team into the last 4.
